Apple iPad 2 Delayed Until June?

In what may be a crushing blow to eagerly awaiting iPad 2 purchasers, a report stated one of Apple’s iPad 2 manufacturers may be experiencing some problems with production. Rumored to first be available sometime this April, it now looks like a June launch is what we will all have to wait for.

Yuanta Securities Co. is reporting iPad 2 manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. is experiencing a “bottleneck” with their production of Apple’s next generation iPad.

Analysts from Yuanta said the delay occured after Apple made some design changes before the Lunar New Year, an article from Bloomberg reported.

This may put a damper on any healthy lead in the tablet wars Apple may have had considering new Android tablets are to be launched soon. It also may reduce the expected iPads to be produced in 2011 by several million.

Is USB-Like Technology Called 'Light Peak' Coming to New iPad 2?

Previous rumors of the newly added port in the iPad 2 have mentioned it being used as some kind of display function. But macrumors.com is suggesting this new port may be using the new “Light Peak” technology created by Intel. Light Peak is a universal connection function that is somewhat like USB. USB transfers data by electrical current, but Light Peak uses laser light instead and is much faster with a standard transfer rate of 10GB per second.

Apple has already mentioned it will introduce Light Peak technology “soon”:

Apple is expected to adopt this Intel technology in the near future–but likely use a name other than Light Peak, a source familiar with this aspect of Apple’s plans said. Intel has said in the past that the first products using Light Peak should appear in the first half of 2011.

Some people interested in purchasing the iPad have expressed their wish of having a USB connection to make transferring files, pictures and other data easier that using other methods like Apple’s camera connection kit. This latest rumor about Light Peak technology just may fulfill those wishes, and make transfers a lot faster than we’re used to.

Whether it’s Light Peak technology, a standard USB, or a display port, the new iPad 2 is getting some new connection hardware.

New Rumor: 6-inch iPad for Fall 2011

The iPad rumor mill keeps on spitting out the gossip. This time 9to5mac.com has picked up an interesting tidbit of information:

SuperApple.cz claims that even though Apple has been reluctant about releasing a smaller iPad, Apple is still working on two models with screen sizes close to 6 inches. Specifically, the report claims that Apple is working on a 5.7-inch model and another model just below 6 inches. They claim that this information comes from two separate sources so the minimal size difference might really not be a difference at all.

Perhaps Apple is just testing different screen sizes for later iPad versions. It’s possible all of this hullabaloo is just about a larger iPod Touch to be released this fall, but there have been previous rumors of a 7 inch iPad in the works. Only time, and Apple, will tell.

iPad May Be Getting LCD and PLS Displays From Samsung

And article in the Korean Times suggest Apple may choose an LCD display from Samsung for the iPad 2.

According to sources, the company, established in January 2009, is in the final stage of talks on supplying its latest LCD panels for Apple’s iPad 2, which is expected to be released later this year.

But the article went on to say a spokesman for Samsung and representative from Apple Korea had no comments on the rumors of the new display types.

Also mentioned in the article was the possible use of Samsung’s Super Plane to Line Switching (PLS) technology being used in future iPad versions, a new type of display that was recently made public late last year.

Your iPad BatteryThe battery in your iPad is costly to replace(Apple actually ships you a new iPad), therefore it’s best to know how to take care of it and get the most use from it. The iPad contains a 25-watt lithium-polymer battery able to last about 10 hours with sustained use.

Apple supplies all iPads with a 10-watt USB charger adapter. For the fastest charging method, one must plug the adapter into a wall socket. You may also charge the iPad by connecting to a USB port in a computer, but this method only provides 5-watts of charging power and the iPad must be in sleep mode or turned off. If you try to charge the iPad while it is turned on through a computer, you’ll see a “not charging” notice next to the battery icon.

Keep your iPad out of the sunlight for prolong periods and away from heat sources as these may damage the battery and result in a shorter lifespan. If the iPad gets too hot, there will be a warning message given and it will automatically turn off. You can put your device in the refrigerator to cool it down and bring it back to life should it overheat.

Editor’s note: This article was reposted from huffingtonpost.com.

orld of Goo for Apple iPad outsells than Mac, PC, Linux, Wii, Xbox versions

The iPad 2 is (presumably) still months away, and already tech blogs are buzzing about the iPad 3.

According to TechCrunch and Daring Fireball, Apple may be planning to unveil the iPad 3 later this fall. If the rumors are true, the appearance of this next-next-generation tablet would be a surprise, especially as it would come so shortly after the iPad 2, and as Apple usually sticks rigidly to its product development cycles. Given that the original iPad went on sale in April, Apple would be expected to release the second version of the tablet around the same time a year later.

TechCrunch writes,

We’ve now heard that this "fall surprise" is related to this would-be iPad 3. We don’t have any more concrete information beyond that. But, as of right now, the plan is apparently to release one iteration of the iPad in the next few weeks. And then blow the doors open with another new version in the fall.

[…] But Apple has a history of not resting on their laurels. That’s perhaps the key reason why they’ve been so successful in recent years. And that’s exactly why they strike with the iPad 3 in the fall.

Now, I have no details as to what this iPad 3 would include. But one very solid guess is a retina-like display that the iPhone 4 currently has. There’s obviously been many rumors of this for the iPad 2, but it’s not happening yet. But perhaps it could this fall. Another, slightly smaller form factor will clearly be another guess. Steve Jobs has famously played down that idea in the past — but he often does that and turns around with an offering.
