A Wall Street analyst from Goldman Sachs is saying Apple’s overseas suppliers may be experiencing production delays in regards to the new iPad 2’s ultra-thin glass screen.

Bill Shope explained in a note to investors this week that there may be a decreased supply of iPad 2 devices when the new version of Apple’s tablet is launched. The good news is Shope also suggests the launch date will not be effected by this recent production bottleneck. That launch date was previously rumored to be very soon after Apple officially announces iPad 2 this Wednesday.

Apple is once again pushing the technology envelope by making the device far thinner than the original iPad, and the iPad 2’s ultra-thing glass screen is generating yield issues,

Supply is expected to ramp up quickly once suppliers can finally catch up with demand. It’s a logistics issue, not a technical one. Limited supply of Apple products at their launch seems to be commonplace in recent years and “should not be a major concern” for investors.

The latest iPad 2 rumor isn’t such a big deal because it’s purely aesthetic, but worth reporting anyways. 9to5mac.com received an image of a white iPad 2 bezel, or outer frame. Theres a front facing hole presumably for a camera.

Users may get a choice between a black iPad 2 or a white one. Only 2 more days until we find out for sure. We’ll provide live updates this Wednesday of the official iPad 2 announcement.

Engadget is updating its opinion on what hardware the next generation iPad may have. The iPad 2 should include a faster processor, the A5, and more RAM at 512MB. They are also claiming that due to some “engineering issues”, the SD card slot and Retina display will not be seen in the new iPad. This sentiment joins the latest chorus of rumors suggesting an iPad 2 with moderate updates.

Notably, that SD card slot and higher resolution display won’t make it into the new model (the latter we’d been hearing rumblings about for a little while). What’s the cause of the switch? Well our sources weren’t crystal clear on the exact reasons, but the gist of what was explained to us centered around vague “engineering issues” which may have forced some changes at the eleventh hour.

Front and rear facing cameras are still expected to be seen. Engadget also thinks iOS 5 will be announced along side the iPad 2 on March 2 and may be released this summer with the new iPhone 5.

Just when you thought all of the new iPad rumors have been aired before the official announcement for the next generation of iPad is officially made next week by Apple, there’s now talk of only an incremental upgrade to be launched soon.

iLounge reports on the rumors:

Two reliable sources are suggesting that next week’s “iPad 2” event has some serious cliffhanger potential—as in, consumers may not see the real “iPad 2” for some time. There’s apparently some truth to the reports of production problems with the new model, and as a result, no one is really sure at this point what Apple is going to be shipping as the “iPad 2,” or when.

Here’s an iPad 2 mockup from one of their sources:

In any case, our sources aren’t sure whether Apple is going to release the iPad 1.5 now and call it the iPad 2, hold off a few months and release something dramatically better, or hold off a few months and release the iPad 1.5. The sources strongly believe that Apple cannot possibly ship enough truly “new” iPads to meet a late March or early April release date. One expects that Apple will only preview the next iPad at next week’s event, then release it widely around June. A price drop for the current model would keep sales flowing until then.

Even though iLounge trusts its sources, they’re taking this new iPad 1.5 rumor with a grain of salt. The good news is we’ll all know Apple’s plans for the next generation iPad on March 2.

While there doesn’t seem to be production problems that would delay the launch of iPad 2, there is a a suggestion from digitimes.com that Apple’s original target to produce 400,000-600,000 units within the first quarter of 2011 may be cut short to 300,000-400,000 units.

The sources pointed out that Apple still maintains its plans to mass produce the iPad 2 by the end of February; however, affected by low touch panel yields and an adjustment in specifications, Apple’s production volume forecast for the first quarter is expected to drop from 400,000-600,000 units originally to only 300,000-400,000 units.

Although most market watchers currently have strong concerns over Apple’s panel yields and supply stability, the sources pointed out that since Apple currently has LG Display, Samsung Electronics and Chimei Innolux (CMI) to backup its panel supply, the company is unlikely to delay its iPad 2 shipments because of the insufficient panel supply.

9to5mac.com posted an article showing pictures of an iPad 2 mockup from the blog of a Japanese parts vendor, ilab.cc. It is thought that these mockups are probably close to the real thing considering the source.

Apparently the rumor of a delay in the production of iPad 2 has been greatly exaggerated. Macrumors cites a few sources which say yesterday’s report that a production bottleneck was caused by a recent design change from Apple is false. A collective sigh was heard over the Internet.

Jim Dalrymple from loopinsight.com claims everything is on track according to Apple’s schedule:

From what I’ve heard this morning both products are on schedule and will ship when they are supposed to. Only Apple knows exactly when that will be, but the products are not delayed.

It seems amazing that rumors of Apple missing product deadlines are running rampant when Apple hasn’t even announced the product yet. The only deadlines that have been set are by the media, not Apple.

Having said that, the iPhone 5 and iPad 2 are not delayed.

Reuters posted an article and a tweet about the false production delay rumor:
