LogMeIn is an incredibly useful tool that allows you to access your computer remotely. With LogMeIn Ignition for the iPad, accessing your computer and data remotely is a breeze. I’ve been playing around with the app for a few days, so let’s get straight into the review!
Setting up LogMeIn Ignition is simple and easy. You need the application on your iPad (obviously), and you need the LogMeIn application installed on your computer. There’s two versions: LogMeIn Pro2 or LogMeIn Free (Mac or PC). After you download the app on your computer, you set up a LogMeIn account, and you’re done on the computer side. After that, you just log in with your account details in the Ignition app, and you’re set and ready to go!
Once you get everything set up and ready to go, you’re presented with your desktop…and a few options buttons: Show/Hide Keyboard, Cmd-Tab/Cmd-` command, mouse default left/right options, Zoom In/Out, Settings, and End Session.
Navigating around the application is quite straightforward. Tapping will either do a left or right click (depending on what you set), pinch-to-zoom on your screen is a go, and typing is done with the iPad’s software keyboard. It does take some time to get familiar with the controls, since you’re most likely used to navigating your system with a mouse and a real, physical keyboard.
The real question is: Is LogMeIn useful? For my use, yes. Sometimes when you’re out and you need access to some files from your computer that you don’t have on your iPad, LogMeIn Ignition makes it possible. LogMeIn isn’t ideal for things like watching video remotely or anything graphics intensive; it’s more suitable for tasks like accessing files, doing system updates remotely, checking text files, etc.
So, with all that said, is LogMeIn Ignition worth it? Absolutely. It does cost a whopping $29.99, so that’s definitely something to consider. But if you’re always on the go with your iPad and you need access to your computer on the go, I would definitely recommend LogMeIn Ignition for the iPad.
