Max and the Magic Marker For iPad Offers Addictive Problem Solving Fun

Finding an addictive adventure game for the iPad can actually be a bit harder than one might think. Finding one that is both addictive and plenty suitable for kids can even be harder. One of the best new games that fits both bills is Max and the Magic Marker. This particular game is one that will allow you to run through all sorts of different adventures and unlike most of the other games on the iPad, “Max” allows you to play and win the game by using your imagination by creating ways out of different problems instead of having to find the exits.

Max and the Magic Marker is a simple story on its face. As Max you wonder from world to world, having to get around, under, over and through different obstacles such as huge cliffs, large bodies and water and even at some junctures, deadly laser beams. All the while you are also trying to evade purple little enemies that will kill you if you touch them with nothing more than your magic marker and your wits to help you. As you wander through these lands you also need to pick up little black ink balls as well as white energy balls and most importantly of all, orange ink balls that will actually fill the marker. It is with these orange balls and your marker that the game really sets itself apart.

While you can jump from one ledge to another to get over some of the obstacles, others are too big, or spaced too far apart for traditional escape. However, the magic marker will allow you to draw lines and shapes (even stairs) that become perfectly solid and allow you to walk or climb on them. Of course the drawback is that you can only draw shapes and lines and whatever else big enough compared to how much ink you have in the marker and different worlds offer different amounts of ink. You also cannot carry ink from one world to the next (otherwise the game would simply be too easy.) Where the game really gets interesting isn’t when you draw a line from one ledge to another, but when you have to come up with a shape that will both hook a moving object and allow you a place to stand you can move along with it. The fun comes that while the game will actually suggest different shapes for you to draw, those aren’t the only shapes that will work.

The real entertainment is when you devise a different shape than what is suggested in order to get over an obstacle that seemed insolvable before. Of course, the best part is that there is a button that will pause the game, and figuring out the best way to use this, in conjunction with the marker is too much fun for me to give away. Max and the Magic Marker is just $2.99 in the app store these days and for that kind of money you will truly be able to buy hours of fun in this truly addictive app.
