DigiTimes reported yesterday on some news from component makers for iPad. Touch panel manufacturers suggest an upgrade from iPad 2 to iPad 3 is unlikely for this year as the higher resolution technology for Apple’s tablet is “still at the initial planning stage.” But there is also mention of a different communication format possibly coming with the next iPad version.
As for the iPad 3 rumor, the sources from upstream component makers pointed out that the new rumored device should be an upgrade version of iPad 2 or an iPad 2 version that supports different communication format. Since Apple just released its iPad 2 in early March and is ready to start mass shipping, launching the iPad 3 would simply bite off share from its iPad 2.
DigiTimes also notes its sources have not received any direction regarding iPad 3 components and that with iPad 2’s strong demand, iPad 3 won’t be available anytime soon.
It’s becoming more apparent that iPad 3 will launch around the yearly release schedule of the first-generation and iPad 2 launches, within the 1st quarter of 2012. iPad 1 was launched in the US on April 3, 2010, iPad 2 was launched on March 11, 2011.

iPad is truely a personal computer for the masses. It is mobile, light and thin enough to hold comfortably for a while. With a nice folio having a built in stand it offers an experience of intuitive use and does the job nicely. Now the DYI geeks are all over customizing and fiddling around, but they are small in numbers, but a rather noisy group. iPad2 is a major upgrade, and its timing to the market was genius. Now there is talk of iPad3 … but what should iPad3 bring to the continuing growth.
* Fix the virtual keyboard. Use the arrangement like iAWriter or at least make it available to all apps if desired.
* Allow data input via SD cards just like it now allows photo input via the camera connection kit.
* Bring tab browsing to safari with the tabs up not down.
* Bring to light the Thunderbolt high speed transfer via the patented 30 pin adapter … that would interconnect with Macbook pro, et al.
* Add turbo boost to the A5 processor for higher performance in gaming … naturally battery life will likely drop some. Let it be a customer tradeoff choice.
* Or if the above is not thinkable see if SGX 543M4 could be incorporated which would kick up the graphics even more.
* Finally, make it seamless in terms of the four steps outlined by John Gruber in Daring Fireball recently.
I would like the also add the following:
* Bring Spaces into iPad … up to 6 windows that would serve as multitasking.
