Periodic Table of the Elements
The app nominally appears like a standard Periodic Chart of the Elements – like that huge poster in the back of our High School chemistry class. But it’s different in that instead of cramming all the information for an element into a small square you select different chemical traits and the entire chart becomes color coded to show how that trait is distributed across the chart, and how it varies with atom diameter and electron pattern.
But I think most interestingly, this demonstrates how traditionally static instructional diagrams can now be interactive, and therefore more engaging and interesting, as textbooks migrate to the iPad. It’s not just that millions of pages can now fit into a slim iPad – the pictures and diagrams themselves can come to life!
