These past few weeks have seen some iPad 3 rumors come together from various sources and we now have a better eye on what could be coming up in the next Apple iPad.
Apple is set to officially announce iPad 3 on March 7. When asked about the announcement, Jim Dalrymple of LoopInsight confirmed the inquiry with a simple yet definitive, “Yep.” Considering last year’s iPad 2 launch shortly after the official announcement, iPad 3 is likely to go on sale sometime in the middle of March.
Frequent and consistent rumors about upgraded hardware and functionality in the new iPad 3 have been flying around the blogosphere for months now. We now know some of the bigger rumors are starting to stick.
NextMedia.com was reporting on a supposed image of the new iPad 3 with a more gradual tapered edge(above) than the iPad 2, as well as a bigger camera lens. The quality of the new rear-facing camera could be as much as 8 megapixels.
MacRumors.com has done a fine job of figuring out the new Retina display details. iPad 3’s resolution display will be 2048×1536, a big leap up in pixel density compared with the resolution of the first two iPads at 1024×768.
Rumors about the next A6 processor chip may have been premature. An image of the supposed new iPad 3 chip turned up a Chinese website, WeiPhone. The “A5X” chip is a dual-core processor one step above the previous A5 chip used in iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
The Wall St. Journal has been talking about the inclusion of 4G LTE in the new iPad 3.
Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc. will sell a version of the coming iPad that runs on their newest fourth-generation wireless networks, according to people familiar with the matter, as the battle to cash in on big investments in mobile broadband heats up.
Talk about LTE in iPad 3 on WSJ.com also included mention of the A6 chip. With new rumors, and an image, of the supposed A5X chip, this begs the question, “Will that be enough to support LTE?”
