A Korean analyst familiar with the semiconductor industry is reporting there is 512MB of RAM in the new iPad 2, even though Apple has yet to officially make an announcement validating that claim.
Kakeun Lee posted on Twitter(Google translation) that Apple will bump up the RAM size in iPad 2, up from 256MB of RAM in the first-generation iPad. Lee also suggests the Apple A5 processor contains LPDDR2 memory. This would be another speed improvement from the original iPad which had only LPDDR1 memory.
If the claim is correct, iPad 2 will now have the same memory specs as the iPhone 4.
From AppleInsider:
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of Concord Securities also told AppleInsider that the RAM in the iPad 2 would run at a higher clock speed of 1,066MHz for greater memory bandwidth than the 800MHz memory in the iPhone 4.
Kuo also indicated back in January that the iPad 2 would have LPDDR2 RAM at a speed of 1,066MHz, corroborating Lee’s more recent claims. Kuo said the memory would be supplied by both Samsung and Hynix.
