The Democratic National Committee plans to port its message to the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch beginning Thursday, offering two free new apps that connect voters with the party’s candidates and events.
The two tools, one of which is powered by Organizing for America, seek to build off the success that President Barack Obama had in 2008, when his campaign took its fight to Washington’s newest political battleground – the smartphone. The party chose June 24 as its release date to coincide with the scheduled debut of Apple’s hotly anticipated iPhone 4.
Democratic strategists on Wednesday described their new offering as a staple part of the DNC’s new, $50-million Vote 2010 campaign, designed to mobilize voters ahead of a tough midterm election cycle.
“Today’s launch is part of the DNC’s ongoing effort to communicate directly with voters, to be on the cutting edge of technology and to equip our supporters with the tools they need to help the president and to elect Democrats who support his agenda this fall,” said Brandi Hoffine, a spokeswoman for the DNC.
