Apparently smashing an iPad while sending jagged pieces of glass flying everywhere in Newsday’s iPad app YouTube commercial does not sit well with Apple. Newsday received a cease and desist letter from Apple telling them to remove the commercial from YouTube immediately.
The video shows a man using the Newsday app on his iPad while being annoyed by a passing fly. The commercial ends with the fly being squashed on a counter by the iPad, sending shattered glass all over the countertop. I think it’s funny. Apple doesn’t seem to agree.
I can understand though, the iPad is pretty strong. Smashing it on a hard surface to kill a fly, backside down, probably wouldn’t shatter the glass. Therefore it’s not a true consequence of such an action and may paint the iPad as less than sturdy in some people’s eyes.
