Reports from CNet, VentureBeat and other sources tell us Apple’s third generation tablet will not be called iPad 3, but will instead be named iPad HD.
Apple is expected to step up the new iPad’s screen resolution to 2,048 by 1,536 pixels. The Retina display, seen in the latest iPhone models, will be sure to please one and all. iPad HD will support 1080p high-definition, the only tablet on the market to do so.

An article posted at The Loop indicates invitations have been sent out by Apple for an iPad 3 media event to be held on March 7. Like previous Apple media events, this one will also take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 1:00 PM Eastern time.
In related news, apple.pro has done some detective work comparing the new iPad 3 with iPad 2. It looks like the new iPad will be approximately 0.81 mm thicker than its predecessor.
As we reported previously, the Apple iPad 3 will most likely come with a quad-core processor, the A5X, a slightly larger camera(up to 8MP?), Retina display, and 4G LTE capabilities.
These past few weeks have seen some iPad 3 rumors come together from various sources and we now have a better eye on what could be coming up in the next Apple iPad.

Frequent and consistent rumors about upgraded hardware and functionality in the new iPad 3 have been flying around the blogosphere for months now. We now know some of the bigger rumors are starting to stick.
NextMedia.com was reporting on a supposed image of the new iPad 3 with a more gradual tapered edge(above) than the iPad 2, as well as a bigger camera lens. The quality of the new rear-facing camera could be as much as 8 megapixels.
MacRumors.com has done a fine job of figuring out the new Retina display details. iPad 3’s resolution display will be 2048×1536, a big leap up in pixel density compared with the resolution of the first two iPads at 1024×768.
