With the unmatched views, pricey drinks, and disco funk soundtrack, the Boom Boom Room has proven itself to be just a wee bit different than every other club in New York City, But now the meanest door staff is getting in on the fun. While everyone was enjoying the opening night of Le Bain, we noticed that the Boom’s guest list is now kept on an iPad, perhaps signaling the beginning of the end of the clipboard era.

One of the benefits of the upcoming Hulu subscription service: The ability for users to watch shows from NBC, Fox and ABC on the iPad. But iPad users can already watch shows ABC shows on the iPad, via the network’s free app. What gives?
That’s the question a lot of people in the media industry have asked since the Disney (DIS) unit launched its app in April. The usual response, after a shrug — perhaps Disney CEO Bob Iger wanted to do something nice for Apple’s (AAPL) Steve Jobs, who happens to be the biggest single owner of Disney shares.
And that may well be the case. But I’ve since heard a slightly more detailed justification for the free app. Bear with me:

Apple on Tuesday revealed that its new multitouch iPad sold 3 million units in the product’s first 80 days of availability, with the most recent million sold in just three weeks.
“People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of their daily lives,” Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs said. “We’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world, including those in nine more countries next month.”
Apple also said that developers have created more than 11,000 new applications for the iPad that take advantage of its multitouch user interface, large screen and high-quality graphics. In addition, it will run almost all of the more than 225,000 apps on the App Store, including apps already purchased for an iPhone or iPod touch.
Apple sold its first million iPads in less than a month, reaching that milestone in 28 days. The 2 million sales point was later reached in less than two months.

Although Apple’s iAd service is coming July 1, Pandora couldn’t wait and has created its own advertising platform to attract big name marketers to its latest app. Starbucks, Lexus, and Budweiser are the first brands on the new Pandora iPad advertising platform. Like iAds, Pandora’s ad platform features video, audio and a variety of interactive elements—all without leaving the app—that aren’t available on its iPhone version, at least not yet. Aside from the cosmetic features, since Pandora offers itself as a personalized radio service, it also says it can “hyper-target” its listeners by gender, age, location, the type of music they like, and time of day.
In an e-mail interview with paidContent, John Trimble, Pandora’s chief revenue officer, discussed the rapid pace of the service’s ad growth. “We did $50 million in revenue in 2009, up from $20 million in 2008 and we expect significant growth in 2010,” Trimble said. “We started web advertising in Feb. ‘06 and mobile ads in May ‘09.”

Anyone looking forward to using their iPad for work in place of a more traditional notebook may have one more reason to do just that. The mobile productivity company Quickoffice has released Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite for iPad. This app lets you create, manage, edit, and view documents compatible with Microsoft’s Office suite. It also has built in support for multiple online storage services including Dropbox, MobileMe, Google Docs, and Box.net with drag-and-drop file management capability.
Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite for iPad
While some users of the iPhone app may find it a bit of a downer that they can’t upgrade from their current version to the iPad release—not without paying the $10 download fee—the company says Quickoffice Connect Mobile Suite was made with the iPad in mind. This means the app is not a port, but rather that it was built to take advantage of the additional screen space that the iPad provides with an interface the developer dubs SmartTouch.

CNET reports that Wal-Mart has confirmed that it will carry iPhone 4 in its stores as of its June 24th launch, adding another major outlet to the growing list of retailers that appear poised to be U.S. launch partners for the new device.
Walmart said Friday that it will be one of several retail outlets who will have the iPhone 4 on June 24, its first day of availability anywhere. While Walmart has carried previous versions of the iPhone, this is a first that it will be for sale in its stores on the device’s official launch day.
Electronics chain RadioShack announced earlier this week that it will be carrying iPhone 4 at launch, with pre-orders set to begin on June 15th, the same day Apple begins the pre-ordering process. Best Buy has also been claimed to be carrying iPhone 4 as of the 24th, although the company has yet to officially confirm availability and its pre-ordering policies are unknown.
