iPad 2 Shipping Dates Now Pushed Back 2-3 Weeks

Apple has pushed back its iPad 2 shipping dates to 2-3 weeks. It looks like online orders are ramping up and Apple needs some time to play catch up. There was an initial “3-5 business days” shipping notice before iPad 2 went on sale. Earlier this morning, hours after launch, the shipping notice read “5-7 business days”.

If you can’t make it to a retail store where iPad 2 is being sold later today, you can still get it delivered to your door quicker than ordering through apple.com, for now. The AT&T shipping notice on their website claims a “5-7 business days” waiting period. That may change later today as orders continue to rise and current inventory dwindles. Click here to purchase from AT&T, be aware they’re only offering the 16GB and 32GB 3G models.

Analysts: iPad 2 Sales May Reach 600,000 This Weekend

An analyst from Gleacher & Co. is saying Apple may sell up to 600,000 iPad 2s by the end of this weekend. Bloomberg posted an article this morning reporting that Gleacher & Co. analyst Brian Marshall thinks sales from the iPad 2 launch could double sales from the first-generation iPad launch. Apple sold 300,000 units last year on the first day iPad was available.

Another analyst weighs in:

The iPad line is the fastest-selling technology product in history, measured by revenue, said Tim Bajarin, an analyst at Creative Strategies Inc. In less than three months, it topped $2 billion — a milestone the iPhone took more than six quarters to reach. The second version has a head start on rivals, which are only now releasing their first models. It’s also benefiting from distribution through additional retail outlets.

“Apple has such a huge lead,” said Bajarin, who has covered the industry for more than 20 years and works as a technology consultant. He projects 500,000 units in two days. “Competitors are going to be chasing Apple for many years.”

More analysts are echoing enormous iPad 2 sales with Romand & Renshaw and Piper Jaffray & Co. joining sales expectations.

The increase in launch weekend sales this time around can be attributed to not only the iPad’s top notch technical features and sleek design, but to more retail and online stores carrying the device. Last year, only Apple sold iPad online for the first month or so. And only Apple and Best Buy sold the device on launch day.

Buy iPad 2 Online and In StoresApple’s new iPad 2 tablet went on sale today, starting online at apple.com and att.com and in store at 5pm local time at select retail locations like Best Buy. iPad 2 is currently shipping within 2-3 weeks, after the first round of buyers saw a shipping time of 5-7 business days after purchase.

iPad 2 comes with some new features like a faster processor, front and rear-facing cameras, and a slimmer, lighter design, an upgrade from its first-generation version. The new device was announced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who is currently on medical leave, at a media event in San Francisco March 2.

Though it probably won’t be as difficult to buy iPad 2 today as it was on last year’s launch day for iPad 1, with long lines at stores and a sluggish online purchase experience from Apple, iPad 2 is still expected to sell very well. One analyst from Gleacher & Co. thinks there could be as much as 600,000 iPad 2 sales by the end of this weekend.

Apple iPad 2 reviews are popping up around the Internet from tech sites, techies, and media outlets who were lucky enough to get their hands on the new tablet before they go on sale tomorrow. The glowing reviews shed more light on iPad’s potential to outshine its competitors this year, though some reviewers did mention some drawbacks like the poor camera quality. iPad 2 comes with new features, a new body, a new inside, and everybody thinks it will be as much or a bigger success than the first-generation iPad.

Walt Mossberg – All Things Digital

Wall Mossberg iPad 2 Review

Walt likes the iPad 2, calling it the “best tablet for average consumers,” and thinks it makes the old iPad and Xoom look “bloated”. But he’s not happy about the quality of the rear facing camera for taking pictures and lack of 4G support. He suggests not buying the iPad 2 if you have a first-generation iPad as it is “evolutionary rather than revolutionary.”

As new contenders move into the field, Apple isn’t likely to keep its 90% share of the booming tablet market. But the iPad 2 moves the goal posts, by being slimmer and lighter, boosting speed and power, and holding its price advantages, available apps and battery life. As of now, I can comfortably recommend it as the best tablet for average consumers.

Jason Snell – MacWorld

For Apple’s competitors in the tablet-device market, the iPad 2 is a bucket of water to the face. After more than a year of struggling to catch up to the original iPad, here’s a new model that addresses many of the iPad’s deficiencies, dramatically improves its speed, and doesn’t cede any ground on price, features, or battery life. The iPad 2 raises the bar Apple set a year ago—and it’s time for the rest of the industry to scramble again to catch up.

For everyone else, the iPad 2 is a triumph, an iPad that’s even more iPad than the original. And the original one was really good. The first iPad was a bolt from the blue, a device that defined an entire category, and a tough act to follow. The iPad 2 follows it with aplomb.

MG Siegler – TechCrunch

iPad 2 Review Roundup - TechCrunch

A week ago, after its unveiling, I got some hands on time with the new hardware and my initial assessment was that it pushed a device that already had no true competition, even farther ahead. But now I’ve had the chance to actually use the thing non-stop for a week. Is my feeling the same?

Actually, it’s even stronger.

The original iPad was considered a huge hit — but that was with no real competition. The iPad 2 has some competition — right now, the Xoom, and many more are coming. But I have no doubt that the iPad 2 will be an even bigger hit than the original.
