With the successful launch of iPad 2 and an expected 600,000 units to be sold by the end of this weekend alone, it seems there’s a touch of grey to this silver lining.
Some iPad 2 users are reporting problems with their screens. Yellowish spots are appearing under the LCD screen on some new iPads, but this may not be a big concern as one may think. The same thing happened with some iPhone 4s that were bought around its launch day last year. The problem ended up going away eventually as the bonding agent used to hold the screen to iPhone’s body evaporated.
There’s also another problem with light escaping through edges on the screen. The problem gets worse or better as the brightness level is adjusted and is also noticeable when using some apps with dark or black backgrounds.
Check out a video of the problems in question after the break.

iPad 2 launch day: it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. As the day progressed, online shipping times increased from 2-3 days, to 3-5 days, to finally 2-3 weeks. But there are some lucky iPad 2 people who bought online at att.com and may receive their new tablet this Monday. Here’s an image of a order confirmation sent to AppleInsider from one of those lucky few:
Records for long lines were broken in some places yesterday as people lined up for a chance to walk out of the store with an iPad 2 in hand. But some were disappointed after waiting many hours in line only to be told there were no more iPads in stock to sell. Sometimes it pays to get in line as early as possible.
Appleinsider.com got reports of enormous lines at popular Apple and Best Buy stores in NYC and California.
In San Francisco, Best Buy sold out of its inventory right away, while Apple’s own Stonestown store was out of stock within two hours of going on sale. Staffers there estimated they wouldn’t have many tomorrow either. Apple’s flagship Union Street store downtown ran out of WiFi iPad 2 models, but still had a stock of 3G versions for both AT&T and Verizon, at least of the 32 and 64GB variety, and only in black. It planed to remain open through midnight to offer remaining supplies to the hundreds standing in line.
Some reported the lines at the Apple store on 5th Avenue on New York City to be the longest they’ve ever seen for any product launch. Other reports from San Francisco said the line stretched around an entire city block like in NYC.

For some, it was a dark and dreary day. For others who languished in the geek lust of gigabytes, it was a joyous time filled with madness only Dr. Frankenstein could dream of.
Just when the iPad 2 thought it would be sold into a good home, its dreams of years of playful and continued use came to a swift and abrupt end at the hands of the devious and ravenous villains at iFixIt.com.
Plucked from the retail shelves of its maker, the Apple device soon was torn asunder to satiate the nerdy appetite of techies across the country. “What’s in it?”, they asked. “We’ll show you”, replied iFixIt.
The A5 processor has manufacture dates of late January and mid-February 2011. Production was clearly ramping up through the last minute. It looks like the A5 processor is the APL0498, replacing the A4/APL0398 seen in the iPad 1 and iPhones.
Ripped from its metallic insides was the central processing unit, the A5 dual-core processor.
As screwdrivers took to the bearings that held the device together, iPad 2 knew it was soon to be scattered into pieces, a RAM chip here, a rear-facing camera there. No more was the tightly held together sum of its parts, iPad 2 was now rendered useless and separated.

Those who didn’t want to brave the masses in person can buy online at apple.com and att.com. Unfortunately for them, Apple’s estimated shipping time for iPad 2 is 2-3 weeks. AT&T had an estimated wait of “3-5 business days” as of a couple hours ago, but now they too are showing a 2-3 week waiting period before your iPad 2 ships if you buy from them online.

Fifth Avenue Apple store in Manhattan – from BGR
There’s just under an hour left to go until the frenzied fervor of iPad 2-mania reaches its peak as Apple’s new tablet goes on sale. Long lines are forming at stores carrying the iPad 2 in populated areas across the country. There may be more people showing up than had originally planned to considering Apple has pushed the iPad 2 shipping date back to 2-3 weeks if you order online at apple.com.
Check out some videos of the lines as people wait to buy iPad 2. There’s also a video of a woman who was first in line and sold her place to a man for $900. The person who bought the pricey line placement was trying to promote the AskLocal app for iPhone and iPad which allows people in close proximity to each other to communicate and message back and forth.
