Apple Miffed at Newsday iPad App CommercialApparently smashing an iPad while sending jagged pieces of glass flying everywhere in Newsday’s iPad app YouTube commercial does not sit well with Apple. Newsday received a cease and desist letter from Apple telling them to remove the commercial from YouTube immediately.

The video shows a man using the Newsday app on his iPad while being annoyed by a passing fly. The commercial ends with the fly being squashed on a counter by the iPad, sending shattered glass all over the countertop. I think it’s funny. Apple doesn’t seem to agree.

I can understand though, the iPad is pretty strong. Smashing it on a hard surface to kill a fly, backside down, probably wouldn’t shatter the glass. Therefore it’s not a true consequence of such an action and may paint the iPad as less than sturdy in some people’s eyes.

You can see the Newsday iPad commercial here, for now…

An analyst from Morgan Stanley noted today that overall netbook sales have decreased ever since the iPad was announced this past January. The decline in notebook sales has been evident for months and continues into September. Katy Huberty from Morgan Stanley is using NPD research data that shows falling notebook sales from previous years.

The analyst also mentioned an earlier report from Best Buy CEO that the iPad has chomped its own notebook sales by 50%.

Play Flash Games On Your iPadThough Apple is not allowing Flash on the iPad, there is a new way around that rule for gamers. iSwifter is a new app that uses the iPad to access Flash based games hosted on outside servers.

iSwifter creators, YouWeb LLC, have developed the app to access Flash games hosted by Yahoo Games, Facebook, AOL’s Games.com, and Kongregate. The app is free and currently is only supported by a Wi-Fi connection, not 3G.

There is some lag during game play as the app is continuously sending movements made on the iPad screen to the server where the Flash game is being hosted. Therefore, some games may perform better than others. But it’s worthwhile to test it out to see which games work best since the app is free.

Heavy rains — and a lively grey market — may have dampened the turnout in Beijing

The iPad's soggy launch in ChinaThere were plenty of reporters but only about 100 customers queued up outside Apple’s (AAPL) Beijing retail outlet at 8 a.m. Friday when sales of the iPad officially began in China.

The first customer, Han Ziwen, wearing a blue “I BUY IPAD NO 1″ T-shirt, was mobbed by the press as he emerged with a box in each hand. He had been camped out in front of the store for more than two days.

Apple seemed to have plenty of Wi-Fi-only iPads in stock. The company has not yet announced when it will begin selling 3G+Wi-Fi model in China. Both models, however, are available in Beijing’s busy grey market — along with plenty of dodgy knockoffs.

Is a new iPad coming in early 2011?Within a couple weeks of the iPad launch in April 2010 there were already rumors flying around about a new iPad model with a forward facing camera. According to digitimes.com, touch screen suppliers for the iPad are preparing new screens and components for a 2nd generation iPad, available sometime in early 2011.

Considering iPhone 4 and the new iTouch have forward facing cameras to accommodate the FaceTime video conferencing feature, it’s very likely the next iPad model will come with this feature as well.

What other features and options might the new iPad bring? Let us know what you think by commenting on this article.
