VLC Video Player Coming to iPad

As first reported by Mac4Ever, VLC has been ported to the iPad by Applidium with the blessing of the VideoLan team. The app is currently in submission with Apple and is awaiting approval.

After several month of porting, we are proud to announce the release of VLC for the iPad! This application stands out for two reasons. First, it will be available for free on the AppStore. But that’s not all. VLC is an OpenSource project. We are currently preparing our patches for submission to the main VLC tree. And obviously, we will release our current working tree when the app will hit the AppStore. If everything goes well, VLC for the iPad should be available next week.

HyperDrive: The iPad hard drive boosts your iPad storage to 750GBIFA 2010: External hard drive ends storage problems for Apple tablet

The company behind the popular external battery packs for the MacBooks, HyperMac, has launched a new external gadget for the iPad.

But rather than just a battery, or a keyboard, the HyperDrive is an iPad hard drive offering your Apple tablet a further 750GB of storage on the go and way beyond the top of the range 64GB model currently available.

The external drive, which comes with it’s own 3.2-inch colour display, d-pad and menu buttons takes a standard hard drive and then lets you transfer videos and image files to the iPad with the help of the official Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit and the iPad’s photo importer app.

Nobody ever claimed that the iPad was weatherproof, but that didn’t stop news anchor Chuck Scarborough from taking his tablet out to the seashore. Reader Michael Neumann saw the veteran NYC broadcaster using his iPad to show weather radar during Hurricane Earl’s race up the US east coast. He could have saved money on that case, though.

Apple now building 2M iPads per month to meet demandApple has doubled its monthly output capacity of the iPad and is now manufacturing 2 million per month to meet strong consumer demand, but the company reportedly would like to go even further and produce 3 million every month very soon.

Analyst Katy Huberty with Morgan Stanley indicated that iPad builds recently increased to 2 million per month, up from the previous number of just 1 million a month. Apple allegedly indicated to its suppliers that it would like to produce 3 million a month starting in the fourth calendar quarter of 2010.

It’s likely not coincidental that less than a week ago, iPad shipping times for new orders from apple.com improved to 24 hours. For months, customers had to wait an estimated 7 to 10 days, as Apple was surprised by strong demand for the device when it launched in April.

Tonight Twitter released a new update to their popular Twitter application that makes it a Universal app with native support for the iPad’s large display. While native support has been a long requested feature for the official Twitter app, the company has also implemented a number of new interface features that seem quite natural on the iPad’s large screen.

The most obvious feature is the use of movable Panes that allow you to actively manipulate content around the screen. Panes can be swiped left/right to move to cover or expose other panes and works surprisingly well.
