A Wall Street analyst from Goldman Sachs is saying Apple’s overseas suppliers may be experiencing production delays in regards to the new iPad 2’s ultra-thin glass screen.

Bill Shope explained in a note to investors this week that there may be a decreased supply of iPad 2 devices when the new version of Apple’s tablet is launched. The good news is Shope also suggests the launch date will not be effected by this recent production bottleneck. That launch date was previously rumored to be very soon after Apple officially announces iPad 2 this Wednesday.

Apple is once again pushing the technology envelope by making the device far thinner than the original iPad, and the iPad 2’s ultra-thing glass screen is generating yield issues,

Supply is expected to ramp up quickly once suppliers can finally catch up with demand. It’s a logistics issue, not a technical one. Limited supply of Apple products at their launch seems to be commonplace in recent years and “should not be a major concern” for investors.

The latest iPad 2 rumor isn’t such a big deal because it’s purely aesthetic, but worth reporting anyways. 9to5mac.com received an image of a white iPad 2 bezel, or outer frame. Theres a front facing hole presumably for a camera.

Users may get a choice between a black iPad 2 or a white one. Only 2 more days until we find out for sure. We’ll provide live updates this Wednesday of the official iPad 2 announcement.

AppleInsider is going out on a limb and suggesting the Apple iPad 2 may be available for purchase shortly after next week’s announcement of the next generation iPad.

They say people in the know, who have been correct in past instances of Apple product releases, are saying Apple is “preparing several of its operating segments to perform functions during the second half of next week that are representative of nothing short of a large scale, consumer-oriented product roll out (not just an announcement).

It’s also noted Apple is expected to release the “second-generation iPad in three variants and several different capacities. In addition to WiFi and GSM-based models targeted at AT&T and a broad range of European 3G providers, a CDMA version catering to Verizon and some Far Eastern providers is also reportedly in the cards. These models are reportedly code-named K93, K94, and K5, and carry initial build volumes of 1.9 million, 2.3 million and 0.8 million, respectively.

Oscar Backstage Pass - Academy Award iPad AppThe 83rd Academy Awards ceremony will take place this Sunday, February 27 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California. The best films of 2010 will be honored within 24 categories and the show will be hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway. This is the first time you’ll be able to watch the awards show and use your iPad simultaneously to follow along with some apps tailored just for this occasion.

Oscar Backstage Pass - Academy Award iPad App 2

What looks to be the most comprehensive and interactive Academy Awards app is Oscar Backstage Pass from ABC Digital. This $1 app will give you an exclusive view into the night’s activities beyond your TV. Cameras placed throughout the Red Carpet, inside the Kodak Theatre, and Governors Ball will show you more of what’s happening throughout the night with the actors and all of the glamour involved. This is a great app choice for those wanting the fullest experience possible on Sunday night. For more information, visit www.oscar.com.

If you’re not interested in shelling out a buck for a decent companion iPad app to the Academy Awards, then you may want to check out Live From the Red Carpet which is a free app from E! Entertainment Television. Like the Oscar Backstage Pass app, E!’s app looks to offer almost as much material to “ooh” and “ahh” over.

Live From the Red Carpet - iPad App

This interactive apps includes celebrity news, photos, interview videos, and live streams. Live From the Red Carpet also highlights other events and award ceremonies like the Grammy and SAG Awards.

Engadget is updating its opinion on what hardware the next generation iPad may have. The iPad 2 should include a faster processor, the A5, and more RAM at 512MB. They are also claiming that due to some “engineering issues”, the SD card slot and Retina display will not be seen in the new iPad. This sentiment joins the latest chorus of rumors suggesting an iPad 2 with moderate updates.

Notably, that SD card slot and higher resolution display won’t make it into the new model (the latter we’d been hearing rumblings about for a little while). What’s the cause of the switch? Well our sources weren’t crystal clear on the exact reasons, but the gist of what was explained to us centered around vague “engineering issues” which may have forced some changes at the eleventh hour.

Front and rear facing cameras are still expected to be seen. Engadget also thinks iOS 5 will be announced along side the iPad 2 on March 2 and may be released this summer with the new iPhone 5.
