Comixology Comics App for iPad Gets Much Needed Face Lift

One of the coolest features to me about the iPad is the ability to read a plethora of great full color digital comics on the device. One of the drawbacks for me is that while the Comics iPad app by Comixology has long been my first choice simply because of the massive library it’s rarely been the best actual app. The first problem was stability. The app generally crashed 5 to 10 times a night when I’d sit down to read a string of digital comics. The second was an interface that was never all that intuitive to me.

Comixology seems to realize that while they owned the market as far as content, their presentation was falling behind other digital comics apps. Because of this, the developers did a complete revamp of the look and feel of the app and their reboot does indeed improve it immensely. The first big change is of course the stability, and coming from someone who uses the app daily it has crashed just once in the week since the reboot.

Where the app really wins points is how it now organizes the comics. The old version of the app had sort of a hodge podge of those comics you already owned and finding a specific series in your library could be a drag. Now every series has its own icon and when you download a new comic in a specific series a badge will appear telling you it’s ready to be read.

iPad 2 Shipments in 3rd Quarter Expected To More Than Double 2nd Quarter Demand

Those who thought that all the talk about another iPad coming out either this fall or next year would stunt the sales of the iPad 2 appear to be wrong. In fact the demand of the iPad 2 and the iPad only seem to be growing amid rumors of yet another Apple tablet coming out sometime on the horizon. According to industry analysts, Foxconn is preparing to ship as many as 20 million iPad 2s to Apple in the third fiscal quarter of this year.

Should those numbers prove to be accurate it would mean that there has been more than a doubling of the demand for the iPad 2 over last quarter when 9.25 million iPad 2s were shipped. Apple has long said that the only limit on iPad sales has been the availability of units and these projections seem to prove that out. All-in-all there are expected to be over 25 million iPads and iPad 2s sold in second half of this year. That would mean that the demand is in fact increasing by more than 75 percent over first half of 2011.

Save 20% on an iPad Warranty

In addition, industry analysts say that in total, Apple will be selling 40 million of the 65.2 million total tablets sold, meaning that Apple holds a market share of 61 percent when it comes to tablets. Tablets in general have become much more popular than they were in 2010 with an overall jump in demand of an incredible 420 percent. Now let’s imagine what the release of the iPad 3, reportedly complete with Retina display and a faster processor will do for demand in 2012.

Madden NFL 12 For iPad Delivers A Touchdown

While the iPad brings plenty of fun little time waster games, there are very few immersive sports games. Among that small population there are even fewer great football games. That is why it was so exciting when the latest version of Madden was released for the iPad. Madden has long been one of the best football video games on the planet and while the iPad version of Madden NFL 12 isn’t as immersing as the console version it certainly takes the cake when it comes to iPad football games.

When first starting up the game you will be asked to pick your favorite team. This team will serve as your first choice when using either Play Now, Season, or Playoffs. Of course if you want to play as any other team in the NFL you simply need to swipe to that team in order to choose it. One of the coolest things about this game is that much like the regular console version the rosters will update, giving you as accurate a roster when you start up the game as humanly possible. Of course there are still some odd kinks to work out there. The rosters right now reflect training camp rosters so quite a few of your teams might be carrying five different quarterbacks or four tight ends.

At the moment there doesn’t seem to be a realistic 53 man roster limit so your team is basically a little too deep, but it can be fun to have that large a depth chart anyway. Of course because this is Electronic Arts and Madden NFL 12 the rosters are all the real players. Want to see if the Eagles are really the powerhouse they look like? Play with Michael Vick and see if he’s earned that $100 million contract. Want to try and see if the Bengals can field a decent team with Andy Dalton and AJ Green? You can do that too.

Cases are great, but if you really want to make a statement and completely personalize your iPad, then skins are the way to go. There are thousands of designs that exist on the internet today, and many companies have began offering “make your own” options, giving you full creative freedom over what goes on the back of your iPad. The following is a comparison between three top skins producers.

iPad 2 and iPad 1 Skins From ZAGG

ZAGG Skins
Although ZAGG’s skins are the most expensive on this list, they are also the highest quality products. Prices range from $19.99 for the most basic options to over $54.99 for the sports leather options. These skins come with ZAGG’s trademark invisibleSHIELD to protect the iPad’s screen and they even offer a 45 day money back guarantee if you’re not thrilled with your purchase (chances aren’t likely). You can either create your own designs or choose from their gallery of pleasing patterns or conceptual art pieces. They also offer what the other skins companies don’t offer: genuine leather skins. These are high quality skins and look very classy on any Apple tablet. If you’re looking for something more unique, however, then the next option on this list might be a better option for you.

ipAd 2 and iPad 1 Skins From GelaSkins

GelaSkins
Saving the best for last, GelaSkins offers one of the most extensive collection of iPad skin designs on the internet. There are hundreds of different designs available, from graffiti-type backgrounds to glossy animal photos or picturesque landscapes. Its site boasts over 100 artists, and if that’s not good enough, you even have the option of designing your own iPad skins using personal artwork or photography. Also, with high-tech, patented materials that guarantee easy cleaning and no scratches even after years of use, how can you go wrong? Prices range from $19.95 for back-only to $29.95 to front/back skins. GelaSkins is definitely a good option for anyone looking to go the customization route or get a few different skins without paying exorbitant prices for them. They also offer an extensive collection of skins for phones and laptops to match your iPad or iPad 2! Buy 3 skins, get one FREE!

7notes HD For iPad Fills All Your Note-Taking Needs

While the iPad has long been a tool for entertainment, when it really took over the tablet market is when Apple realized there was plenty of business applications for the device. One of the coolest applications the touchscreen interface has made possible is the ability to use your own handwriting to take notes or write reports. Of course, once one developer realized that this could be done, LOTS of developers realized this could be done.

Still, one particular app that stands out from the crowd is the 7notes HD app. The first cool thing about this app is that it is actually two different apps that offer slightly different performance. First there is the free version of the app and there is the $8.99 7noted HD Premium which is well worth the extra money if you have a real need for this particular kind of note taking app.

Where the 7notes HD app sets itself apart from other handwriting apps that attempt to decipher your handwriting and transform them into typed text is that the guesses seem to be better than any other app I’ve used. Of course all apps like this are basically taking a guess at reading your worse than bad handwriting and figuring out what it is you were actually trying to say. When you are using your finger, or the stylus to write out words, there is bound to be less precision than when you put pen to paper. 7notes HD Premium seems to have an understanding that there might be problems deciphering your scribbles built into the app because while it guesses at what you are writing, it also gives you an easy way to correct the guess, or to just delete what you wrote if you need to start all over.
