Movie Vault for iPad is a great app for movie buffs of yesteryear, providing streaming over 3G and Wi-Fi. Although new movies are added frequently, most of the films available are from the 1940’s through the 1960’s. It’s a must have app for film enthusiasts who especially like older movies. Younger adults, teenagers, and those not impressed with classic movies and older styles of film may not find a need for the app.
Once you start up Movie Vault, there is a few minutes of waiting while the app updates the movie listings. There’s no waiting once you launch the app after that initial loading process. Users can easily pick any genre of film, Action & Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Horror, Mystery, Sci-Fi, Western, and more. Movies are arranged on a shelf interface, much like the iBooks app. The iPad allows for easy swiping to the left and right to switch between movie genres.
Touching a movie icon brings up a window with details for that movie, including short description, director, date, writers, actors, and duration. After clicking “watch movie”, streaming begins within just a few seconds. There are currently some minor bugs that crash the app, but those should be worked out soon. And with new features coming soon like saving position in movie, more movies, navigating by year and actor, and more genres, this great app has even better potential.

This app sucks. The picture quality is worse than “poor”. Netflix is a lot better. If this were an android app, I’d have gotten a refund, but with crappy apple apps you just get screwed. I’m telling everyone to stay away from this one! It looks like it was made for the iphone’s small screen and when you blow it up play on an ipad, it picture is all blocky and splotchy. Too much compression is my guess.
