iPad 2 is widely expected to have some cool updates from the first generation iPad, but not all the bells and whistles that most may have hoped for. It looks like one only need to wait for this fall to get an even tastier iPad chock full of more features.
Cultofmac.com has heard from an Apple staffer who is echoing rumors of an even beefier iPad coming later this year, the iPad 3. The unnamed staffer said of the iPad 2:
the new MobileMe service will store music, TV shows, and films that were purchased from the iTunes store. The staffer also said that there was talk inside Apple of being able to upload all your music and videos to the cloud whether it was purchased from iTunes or not. However, they couldn’t confirm whether this will be rolled out or not. Before Apple bought it, the LaLa music service allowed users to upload music to an online locker for streaming to any device. There has been a lot of speculation that Apple would roll LaLa’s service into iTunes to create a streaming music service.
Also mentioned by the staffer is the fact that Apple has had “a number of problems along the way” with the iPad 2. This may be the reason for a more robust Apple tablet being launched only 6 or so months after iPad 2. Apple needs to compete with a lot of other tablets in 2011.
iPad 2 should have updates like front and rear facing cameras, a thinner and lighter body, a faster processor, more RAM, and a dual-mode wireless chip for connecting to GSM and CDMA data networks. What looks to be omitted is an SD slot or USB port, higher screen resolution or Retina Display, and more storage capacity.
Those omitted features will most likely be present in iPad 3 as tablet competition reaches a fevered pace later this year.

Opinionated stupidity? No more like incomplete thinking layered upon a
lack of technical knowledge.
Here’s the rub via a factoid list.
1) Retina on the iphone was required to get a workable resolution ie a
phone held in a palm is too small for most apps with normal pixels.
2) the iPads real estate is OK. Is there a need for more pixels? No.
3) GPU on iPhones is extremely limited. Have you noticed the heat
output from consoles and PC gaming machines?
4) GPU performance is directly tied to the number of pixels they
display on. By the way GPU is graphics processing unit, the black
box that draws things, which is used heavily in 3D objects moving
about.
5) Apple are serious on their battery life. It was a main reason why
multi-processing on a one-app-at-a-time device was delayed.
How many people discovered the new double click home button
functionality?
6) 3+4+5 always meant that a higher resolution was out.
7) Finally to cover a whole lot of other stuff regarding usb slots etc,
always consider for your personal wish list item, what impact this
has on the main overriding feature of IOS, that of the sandbox, in
other words the disappearance of the file based operating system.
File directories are out. Apps have whatever data at hand in the
sandbox, separate from all other apps.
