Researchers at iSuppli.com think iPad 2 production loss at the Foxconn plant that experienced a devastating explosion last week could reach as much as 500,000 units. Three workers were killed and more than a dozen wounded in the accident that may have been caused by a buildup of combustible dust in the plant’s ventilation system.
Foxconn has temporarily shut down polishing workshops at all of its plants to ensure there are no similar problems at other facilities. But they are also asserting that they have enough supplies currently to carry it through the brief shutdown period and the incident should have little effect on the company’s ability to meet iPad 2 production needs.
