A previous report stated Apple has stopped production of the original iPad but still has a lot of them currently in stock.

Apple is now offering refunds for first-generation iPad purchasers who bought the device after February 16. If you want to hold on to your iPad you bought after February 16, Apple will give you $100 back. Contact your point of purchase for more details.
